Taking Stock for 2025
Now that 2024 is over, I'm taking stock all the projects I didn't get to, which turns into my to-do list for next year...
My wargame hobby bingo card sort of fell by the wayside this year, but I filled in a few squares with my Tomb Kings conversions and the Soulblight Gravelords zombies.
I managed to paint a bunch of models and knock out a big scenery project, but it somehow feels like I hardly accomplished anything. I think part of that is because I had been working on the Skaven Warp-Skryre Tower for so long, finally finishing it felt like simply "catching up" rather than making "forward progress."
There was a bunch of stuff that I didn't get to this year, chief among them was finishing the initial 1000 points of my Tomb Kings army. If you recall, I was planning to have them completed, with a display board for Armies on Parade in October, but that didn't pan out. Since then, I've been giving more attention to my Vampire Counts because that's what I've been playing with, and they needed new movement trays and some basing. I have 20 skeleton archers and five horse archers remaining, and they'll be among the first miniatures I work on in 2025.
I also have a significant backlog of Zombies for the Soulblight Gravelords. With the release of Warhammer: The Old World, I haven't been compelled to play Age of Sigmar anymore, so there hasn't been a drive to finish these for what is essentially only a narrative project. I've also swapped some of my Age of Sigmar models over to squares to join my Vampire Counts, and they won't be going back. (The Hexwraiths have seen more action in the Old World then they ever did during their time as Nighthaunt units!) I've got 20 zombies assembled, and another 20 still on sprues with all of those coffin lids ready to go, so this will be something I slowly chip away at over time.
Star Wars: Rebels has been one of my favorite Star Wars series, so when the Shatterpoint miniatures game was announced, one of the things I was hoping for was the full crew from the Ghost. I picked up both box sets, but haven't had time to work on them. I'm really looking forward to painting these figures.
Something else that caught my eye earlier this year was Demon Ship by Black Site Studios. Witty had a great review of it on her YouTube channel, Wittle Goblin, and it looks like a fun and characterful solo miniatures game. I particularly like the 6-inch by 6-inch game board with modular pieces that can be set up in different configurations for each room the player enters. The MDF terrain has been sold out for a while, so I might have a go at scratch-building my own modular terrain. It should be a fun project that won't spiral into a years-long terrain build. (Famous last words, right?)
This year I also put out a bunch of new kits for my Skull Forge Scenics range of resin scenery– Most recently, I've updated the 32mm base set to have ten unique bases instead of doubling up on four of the designs. I've also added the ruined desert obelisks, and accessories like the scorpion swords and robotic flayer claws. I plan to keep adding new items to my shop in 2025 as well, like some of the larger bases sizes and more scenery pieces.
That's a look at what I have in store for 2025. I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year! Here's the "unchecked" Wargame Hobby Bingo card if you want to take a crack at filling it out next year. I'm hoping I can come close to completing it this time.
'Til next year!
Thanks Rob for all the updates throughout the year. Some really amazing work. I think I might also have a go on the Bingo next year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for following along, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope you'll definitely try the bingo card- Even if you don't score a bingo, it's a great motivator to work on a project you might otherwise put off, or try something new. Happy New Year!
