More Work on the Casket of Souls

Here's a look at the completed guardian crew for my Casket of Souls and the spirits, which are still in progress.

This particular project has been taking a little longer than I would have preferred. That's mainly due to my getting the casket and priest finished, and using some spare Tomb Guard as the guardian models. So, since I've been able to field a painted casket, I haven't had as much of a drive to finish up the remaining components. Well, I finally completed the assembly of the guardians and got them painted over the last few days.

I think they turned out great– The heavy "bird head" axes really tie them into the theme of the casket, and I went with black and gold armor, limiting the red to the small tassels on their headdresses to differentiate them from my regular Tomb Guard.

As I've mentioned in a previous post, I made four of them because the casket is a war machine with a crew profile of 4 Attacks and 4 Wounds, so these amount to wound and attacks counters for it.

As for the spirits, I had found a set of used Nighthaunt Myrmourn Banshees for sale that I'm converting into spirits pouring out of the casket.

After removing the bits of fence and branches from them, I puttied all the seams in their veils.

One of the hands broke off, and since I needed to repair it, I decided that I would replace all of the hands and remove the daggers. For this, I'm using the spare hands I had left over from my Ghouls and Crypt Guard.

After removing the models' original hands and selecting a new pair, I carefully drilled out holes in the hands and wrists.

The new hands were pinned in place...

...and the joins smoothed over with modeling putty.

I hollowed out the casket and inserted a metal plate. Then I made a plastic panel that fit precisely inside the casket, and added a magnet.

The spirits were pressed into some putty on top to make an impression where they will attach, and this will all be covered up with putty to blend the ethereal robes into the base.

That's about as far as I've gotten; I'm still debating adding some Khemri-themed accoutrements to the spirits before I glue and putty them together. Nothing in my parts box really grabbed me, but the new Reinforcements box will be out in about a week, so I'm waiting to see if it has any bits I can use.

'Til next time!
