Screaming Skull Catapult Kitbash, Final

After about a month of work, the Screaming Skull Catapult is finished. Here's a look at the painted war machine:

As I mentioned in the previous post, the whole thing took only two days to paint. I was anticipating a quick paint job because, while the conversion work was terribly intricate, in the end it's all mainly bones and wrappings, which I have down to a science at this point. Still, there's no motivation quite like a deadline for an event!

The crewman shoveling skulls onto the throwing arm is one of my favorite details. I'm really glad that I swapped his hammer for a shovel at the last minute.

The throwing arm kept dropping down and the hook would keep falling down while I was building the piece, but I inserted some pins into the pivot point to create stops so the arm can only go down so far, and this creates some tension on the hook, so everything sits securely in place. (Everything is a bit tighter, as well with a layer of paint on it.)

And the arm still rotates up into the throwing position.

The color scheme on the crewmen matches the rest of my skeletons– Gold piping on the headbands, red trim on the collars, with red loincloths.

Believe it or not, the vulture is one of the most crucial components, because it allows me to add a pop of red and black to tie the otherwise all-bone machine in with the army's color scheme.

Here's the finished war machine, side by side with his little brother from Warmaster, which served as the inspiration for much of this conversion. Thanks for following along with this project! I'm currently editing a video rotation of the model, which will appear on my Youtube channel soon, so stay tuned.

'Til next time!
