Warmaster Orc Army Showcase

Here's a look at a Warmaster army that I painted ages ago but, surprisingly, have not ever posted here.

This Orc army used to belong to a friend of mine. Back in the day, I convinced him to get into Warmaster by agreeing to paint his army for him. Eventually, he put the game aside and (if I recall correctly) when he said that he intended to get rid of the models, I offered to buy them from him, essentially reimbursing him for about what he had spent on the miniatures. It's a great little army, and was a blast to paint. I really miss this game!

My friend wanted the army to have a Savage Orc theme, so the orcs are all have warpaint, and the colors chosen for the banners was a red and blue split with a skull icon in the center. (I used Warhammer skeleton decals for the skull and crossbones.)

Here's the Orc General, with his army standard bearer by his side:

The heavy hitter of the army is this unit of Boar Riders. I've had many a skeleton smashed to pieces by these guys!

The core of the army is made up of two regiments of Orc Warriors, also sporting red and blue banners and matching warpaint.

This Orc Hero was fun to work on. He's got a wolf on a leash, and I added a few spare wolves to make it look like he's got a whole hunting pack. I used the cape to tie him into the red and blue motif.

Under his charge are the Goblin Wolf Riders. These old sculpts have so much character, like the goblin holding his hat in the air.

Chariots are a must in any army that can take them, and these wolf chariots, despite their low armor save, are no exception.

This Goblin Shaman, accompanied by his drummers, leads the Goblin regiments, and provides a bit of a magic punch. (I also have an Orc Shaman, which I never got around to painting.)

The Goblins have so many fun details like the orc champion leading them and the squig hoppers.

The last two models in the army are the Giant and the Rock Lobber:

Again, there was so much detail like the orc bully and the troll. I just realized that there's no counterweight, so I guess the troll pulls the chain to hurl the rock!

I added some Woodland Scenics foliage for leaves on the tree trunk the Giant is using as a club. His base is a nice diorama piece with a smashed cart and a cowering peasant (a fully sculpted metal base, rather than scenic bits added to the standard plastic base).

This army was such a fun project. I remember hanging onto some plastic spiders and spare chariot crew to kitbash some spider riders (to count as Wolf Riders). Warmaster is having a bit of a resurgence, so maybe I'll have the opportunity to play it again...

'Til next time!
