Selketta's Battle Standard
At long last, my Tomb Kings army has a battle standard!

I built this model to be Tomb Prince Selketta's personal herald and battle standard bearer, so I echoed the color scheme and scorpion imagery (which, as I mentioned in the previous post about the model's assembly, was made much easier thanks to the banner's scorpion design).

I didn't realize it at the time, but the pose of the herald's legs is similar to the classic metal Tomb Kings battle standard bearer (which was the basis for Selketta).

The scarabs he's holding turned out pretty well, matching the style and color of the bugs in my Tomb Swarms.

On the banner itself, I painted an image of two scorpions that form a skull in the negative space between them. This was trickier than the icon on the unit standard, because I had to make sure the line work fit between the folds at the top of the banner and the tears at the bottom, and angle it slightly to account for the flow of the hanging cloth. If I could do it over again, I would have filled in that long tear toward the the center to give me more room.

He's a bit top-heavy and weighted toward the front, but fortunately the magnets in his base will keep him stuck to the unit's movement tray and prevent him from tipping over.

I am very much looking forward to getting the battle standard into the army so I can re-roll all those failed Leadership tests for my liche priests' and necrotects' command abilities!

'Til next time!
