New Skeletons and New Plans
Taking a look at my budding Skeleton unit and the plan for the rest of the year:
If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you'll have seen some progress in my #HobbyStreak. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Hobby Streak is a way to maintain consistent progress on your projects by making sure you do at least half an hour of work every day– building or painting models or scenery. Then take a photo and post it on your social(s) with the hashtag #HobbyStreak and the number of days in your streak. If you miss a day, you start over at zero. Then see how long you can maintain your Hobby Streak, and try to do better each time.
These 9 skeletons took me about 14 days to paint, working on them for half an hour to one hour each day.
I've also converted Watch Captain Halgrim– I've never been a fan of hair on skeletons, so I initially trimmed it all off, but then I decided he needed something more, and gave him a winged helmet from the mounted Knight of Shrouds. And he's on a 25mm base so he can fit in the skeleton unit as a champion. I also considered replacing the sword with a shield, but I might simply strap the shield to his arm or on his back to give him a little more visual interest from behind.
I finally pulled the trigger on a second Cursed City boxed set so I can get more skeletons and zombies. I was hoping to finish off my entire Cursed City set this year, but I don't think that's going to happen. (This year has flown by!) I think I might settle for finishing the skeletons, zombies, and the Wight Queens by Halloween. We'll see...
I've also got to get back to my Skaven Warp-Skryre Tower. I haven't touched it in literally a year! I'd like to finish it up so I don't have to carry it over for another year as an unfinished project. I don't think I'm going to come anywhere close to finishing my Hobby Bingo card, either. (It's already September and I've only checked about four boxes.)
'Til next time!
Good work on your hobby streak. I really only have time on the weekends, so that would be a big challenge for me but honestly half an hour. I gotta lower my painting standard I swear...
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, half an hour is not that much. I've basically been squeezing it in at the end of the day before I go to bed, just to maintain the streak. Every little bit helps– I might have otherwise dragged my feet on painting those skeletons for months. (Like I have with the Wight Queens!)
DeleteThanks that sounds like a great idea. I will have to give try.
ReplyDeleteThe Hobby Streak challenge? Go for it! :)
