Saying Goodbye to the Attack Bike and Adding a 100mm Base to my Shop
After years of debating whether or not I should paint my Black Templar attack bikes, it looks like GW has made the decision for me...
But first up, I've added a 100mm base to my Skull Forge Scenics range of industrial bases. As with my other bases, it comes with an accessory sprue with valve wheels and a deck plate. I've also sculpted a stand-alone bit of pipes that can be placed anywhere on the flat portion of the base. This lets the user create more variety if they have multiple bases, and it comes in handy for large models like the Astra Militarum Field Ordinance where a big chunk of pipe sticking up in the middle of the base might get in the way. The 100mm bases are now available in my Etsy and eBay shops:
So, GW has announced that they are retiring a portion of the Space Marine range, mostly units that have been replaced by Primaris equivalents. This isn't entirely unexpected– The old models just don't compare to the new Primaris sculpts. I suspected that it was only a matter of time before they dropped the whole "Firstborn Space Marine" and "Primaris Space Marine" charade, and simply called everything "Space Marines." They seem to still be clinging to a few Firstborn units, but give it time. The new Terminators, apparently don't have a Firstborn or Primaris distinction ("They're BOTH!") and I think that's how most units will be handled going forward.
And I can't really blame them. I haven't been able to bring myself to paint more Firstborn marines; proportionately, they just look like stunt-legged bobble-head dolls compared to the Primaris. (And, I barely play 40K anymore, anyway.)
To that end, I've decided to sell off my unfinished Attack Bikes. They are currently listed in my eBay shop, along with some Assault Marine components, and a handful of Warhammer Fantasy blister packs that I've been sitting on for decades.
There were times when I was considering a Dark Elf Army. (In fact, one of the earliest Warhammer units I ever painted was a regiment of 5th Edition Black Ark Corsairs that I was allying into my Undead force!) Now, these models are just part of a collection I'll never get around to painting, so it's time to say goodbye and hope someone else can make better use of them.
'Til next time!
