The Krulghast Cruciator
Here's a look at the finished Krulghast Cruciator with his diorama base:
As you'll have read in the previous posts, my idea for Darklon is that he's a blacksmith, infusing the soul energy from his torture subjects into his work to create magical artifacts. Every blacksmith needs an anvil, so I sculpted one out of Aves Apoxie Sculpt and mounted it on top of a leftover post from a Sigmarite mausoleum fence. I made the attachment plate from styrene card and thin rod. The hourglass was taken from another mausoleum component.
I also made some tools out of styrene rod. The curved tips of the pliers are a piece of tube with a notch cut out.
I even went as far to replace one of the Krulghast's knives with a small hammer to carry the blacksmith motif onto the figure itself.
The finished model and diorama turned out just as I imagined it, and the skull lines up perfectly with the victim's neck.
At the lest minute, I added some strands coming off the spare head that would curve toward the sword's flames. These were made from bits of cloak and spirit trails that were left over from my various Nighthaunt conversions and blended into the head with modeling putty.
Like the Scriptor's library base, the soul forge can be used as a stand-alone piece of terrain or an objective.
And here's Darklon on his regular 40mm base:
This guy was a blast to work on and looks great as a display model on its own or as part of a larger scene.
'Til next time!
