The first of my Star Wars: Shatterpoint Rebels crew is finished:
Hera Syndulla, captain of the Ghost! I was a big fan of Rebels when it originally aired back in 2014. I was watching Season 1 on YouTube as I was painting this, and the show hasn't lost any of its luster. The plots, characters, and the Early-Rebellion Era remind me of my days playing the classic West End Games RPG. (There's even an episode inspired by one of the West-End adventure modules, Strike Force: Shantipole!)
I used a lot of reference to get the details and colors correct, mainly the show and this image:
I don't think I ever noticed that Hera's blaster has an orange panel on it, matching her jumper. I painted it as more of a brass panel.
I also added the piping on her head gear. The model is plain, but I used a fine brush to draw in the lines and highlight between them with white and grey.
It took a while to find a shot where the pattern on her lekku was visible! (Simply Googling "Hera's lekku pattern" turns up some inaccurate results, so I went right to the source.)
The base turned out pretty well, too. You can barely see any reflection in this shot, but the floor surface is mirror glossy, with matte black on the sides.
She was a blast to paint, and I'm looking forward to working on the rest of the crew!
Love it! Hera is a great character, and you really captured the look. The Lekku patterns and the lining on the head cover really help elevate the figure.
She looks amazing, Rob! The details on her...head tails? I guess I don't know the lore in what their ponytails are called! It is amazing, anyway. Love the research you put in on her too...
Thank you so much, Mike! The Twi'lek race have tentacle-like head tails (no hair) called "lekku." (Think of Bib Fortuna and Jabba's dancing girl Oola in Return of the Jedi)
