A Pair of Queens

A quick post to finish off the pair of Wight Queens:

I wanted to vary the poses between the two queens (and I didn't have another pointing skeleton hand anyway), so I decided to have the second model making a fist with her left hand and pointing with her sword.

The left hand was easy enough; I used the same process as I did for the first model's assembly. The sword arm, however, needed to be raised, so I cut away the shoulder pauldron and fit it in place on the torso.

To attach the sword, I pinned it onto a piece of 26-gauge wire, and passed this through the sword hand.

I glued the arm in a raised position, pinning the segments of the arm together with more wire. I cut the pommel from the vampire lord's mace and put it on the end of the wire "hilt."

For the head, I used a skull from one of the Cursed City skeletons.

To replace the head and get a complete skeleton warrior, I chopped up the front half of the champion, and combined his breastplate and head with the back half of the skeleton.

I attached some Witch Aelf hair and sculpted the over the hairline. I also used putty to thicken up the hilt of the sword. When it came to basing the models, since the banshee skirt attaches to the ground at a steep angle, I pressed it into a mound of putty so the figure could stand upright.

Next, I added gravel and ballast and detailed the bases with tombstones, skulls, and a branch from a Woodland Scenics tree armature. As I mentioned in the previous post, the inner skirt is separate, and will be painted as part of the base.

With that, Vampire Queen Olivia's lieutenants are finally ready for some paint!

'Til next time!

  1. I love those full mask champion heads. I wish GW would make new Graveguard with those masks. I might have to cast up a bunch.

    1. Yeah, they are pretty sweet. I'd love it if they would make new GG models. They actually feel out of date now with all the new Soulblight stuff. With all their armor and robes, the Skeletons look better as GG than the actual Grave Guard models! :D
