2022 Comes to an End

Taking a look back at the past year, and pondering some plans for next year.

Last Minute Projects

Feels like I didn't get that many models finished this year, but I'm very satisfied with the ones I did finish. They were either very involved conversions, or models that I've had on the back burner for a long time. I recently put up rotations of the Scriptor Mortis and Krulghast Cruciator on my YouTube channel:

I've also been working furiously to finish the Black Coach so I can go into the next year with a (mostly) clear plate. The horses were the most intimidating components because I always dread blending the ethereal trails. But, once I get going, they're not that bad. I think I've dialed in my Nighthaunt painting process since the early days. I basically use four colors: I blend out from the horse with GW Stegadon Scale Green, and then my own mix of GW Nihilakh Oxide & Army Painter Necrotic Flesh, with either white mixed in to blend out toward the tips, or GW Coelia Greenshade mixed in to darken it back toward the horse.

I glued the horses and coach together and marked their position on the base.

Then, I spread some Aves Apoxie Sculpt over the area and pressed the horses into it to create impressions.

I sculpted some sandy texture around the impressions that I'll be able to blend fine ballast up to the sculpted portion. I also selected some parts from my Sigmarite Mausoleum to add more graves to the base.

As of writing this, I have the base detailed, and I'm waiting for the sand and glue to dry. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it before the stroke of midnight. (If I do, I'll post a picture on Twitter.)

The Final Bingo Score

I didn't score a bingo this year (even if I manage to finish the coach), but I did fill out about half of the card, which is no small accomplishment. I'm counting the Krulghast as a diorama.

The Skaven Warp-Skryre Tower remains unfinished, which brings me to the next subject...

Looking Toward 2023

Next year I definitely want to finish off that Skaven tower. With the Black Coach completed, I'll be able to move on to the next part of the Resurrection story and its conclusion.

Something else I'd like to do for the blog is go through all of the past suggestions and requests from readers that I never got around to. It will give me an opportunity to work on some non-army projects and maybe fill out the whole bingo card.

I've also got to add more scenery to my Skull Forge Scenics shop. So, I don't think I'll have any shortage of projects to keep me busy, and as always I'll try to post with more regularity.

Until then, I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year!

'Til next time!
