I've enjoyed every AoS game I've played, but my friends and I go old school and design narrative scenarios where we balance the armies ahead of time rather than field blind lists or deploy as you go. Most of the comp systems I've seen don't work any better than this. AoS works especially well for small games where units are 10-20 models, which eliminates some of the extra dice you ran into.

Glad to see others enjoying AoS!quindiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14194306105013871853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8172624728496479335.post-57441644892825453942015-11-14T13:30:48.465-05:002015-11-14T13:30:48.465-05:00Photoshopping the scrolls took forever, but it did...Photoshopping the scrolls took forever, but it did force me to carefully read all the rules while condensing them and consider the interactions. The units that buff each other are now on the same pages. All of the summoning spells are on a single page as well. It's infinitely more handy. I've never been a fan of e-rulebooks; it's much more difficult to flip back and forth or have two pages side-by-side.

The complexity is about on par with WFB. Like every edition, there are shake-ups that force players to reconsider their tactics, unit sizes, and interactions. I think the main problems are the lack of an army-building structure, and the fact that everyone is expected to rebase their entire army.

Even though the rules say models don't need to be rebased, having any regimental strips makes it a pain in the ass to move models around in combat. Some of the more tournament-oriented podcasts are already talking about round bases becoming a requirement so people aren't "getting more attacks because their 20mm squares allow their models to be closer together." Even that is going to presume that people aren't just *round basing* their models, but that they are basing them on a particular *size* of round base. Ugh.Rob Hawkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15081613694027406147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8172624728496479335.post-84576172493373975202015-11-14T11:34:39.037-05:002015-11-14T11:34:39.037-05:00Great write-up, Rob. I think that part of the reason it felt so loop-sided is that I simply forgot some of the bonuses that could have been stacking. Wether it was adding Bravery for unit size, getting additional attacks from nearby characters, ect - I'm finding the Khornate stuff much less "point and shoot" than in previous editions. It's a nice change, but a lot to remember.

I'm not sure the game is really less complex than old WFB - it's just a little easier to access now. But the myriad of rules are all still there. It's just a bit of a different feel.

Glad to hear you've found a solution to the warscrolls. Right not they are really cumbersome and the App is like playing with one hand tied behind your back.Chris Waltonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05764502221874442259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8172624728496479335.post-18477488207230252782015-11-14T04:40:53.558-05:002015-11-14T04:40:53.558-05:00Great to see you're giving it another go mate,...Great to see you're giving it another go mate, it's homestly a great game! You could try skirmishing your army next time, makes units much more effective!Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141033897876500940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8172624728496479335.post-64589768899527474992015-11-14T03:18:46.387-05:002015-11-14T03:18:46.387-05:00French community create cards for play to AoS. htt...French community create cards for play to AoS. http://www.warhammer-forum.com/index.php?showtopic=234010&page=1Dreadaxehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13773691577570562234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8172624728496479335.post-49484843236619725242015-11-14T03:18:37.615-05:002015-11-14T03:18:37.615-05:00French community create cards for play to AoS. htt...French community create cards for play to AoS. http://www.warhammer-forum.com/index.php?showtopic=234010&page=1Dreadaxehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13773691577570562234noreply@blogger.com
