Conan Terrain: Jungle Temple

This is the second table I made for the Conan: Rise of Monsters miniatures game, by Pulposaurus Entertainment. It's based on the Abyss of Kun Whu concept art. I took those designs and incorporated them into this demo board, featuring a large skull carved over the entryway to a ruined temple.

The rocky hillside was carved out of insulation foam, with wood filler covering some of the gaps. The skull is a plastic Halloween skull from the craft store, and the carved pillars and walls are made from layers of 1/4-inch Cellfoam sheets.

These sheets were carved and glued to the table. Everything was covered with sand and talus stones. The exposed foam was painted with wood glue and black latex paint for durability.

Around the perimeter of the ruins are rickety wooden walkways. These were made from bass wood. I kept them separate for painting, along with a few of the fallen pillars.

These skeletons are the ones that became my Undead Legions Red Rain skeleton archers.

Here's a shot of the table with the painting finished, before I added the flock, static grass, and jungle plants:

The jungle plants are a mix of aquarium plants, with plastic and fabric floral arrangement leaves.

Small resin skulls were added into all the recesses of the architecture. I used Envirotex Lite Pour-On two-part epoxy resin, which was poured into recesses in the ground to create pools of water.

You can see the board in action and check out the game itself in Pulposaurus' CROM gameplay videos:

Conan Terrain: Stygian Desert

Pulposaurus Entertainment had commissioned me to create a couple of demo boards for their new game Conan: Rise of Monsters. They just premiered it at Gencon and launched their Kickstarter campaign. You can see more about the game by clicking these links for their Facebook and Kickstarter pages.

*Update:  As of today, the CROM Kickstarter is shut down. Pulposaurus has announced a tentative partnership with Reaper Miniatures, and their Kickstarter campaign has been cancelled so they can readjust things and relaunch later this year. That's pretty cool!

The first of the two boards is a ruined tower in the Stygian desert. If you stopped by the Pulposaurus booth at Gencon, you may have seen the board, and even played a demo game for Conan: Rise of Monsters. Here's how the terrain came together:

I started with a concept drawing for the table. Pulposaurus specified that they wanted a ruined tower as the centerpiece, so I designed the board layout with the tower toward the back. Ruined walls and toppled columns to add some elements for models to stand on or take cover behind.

Most of the architecture and rocks are sculpted out of foam, with wood filler putty smoothing the transitions and filling the gaps. Play sand and talus stones were used to create the sandy texture of the desert. Once the construction was complete, everything was coated with wood glue for durability.

The tower is formed out of individual blocks stacked around a central core. The walls have a foam core center, with the stones covering the exterior. The window frames are made out of thick PVC plastic card.

The emblem in the center of the floor is based on one of the designs Pulposaurus had sent. The stairs are cut into the foam, and each step is a piece of thick card.

Pulposaurus had also sent me some concept art for various ruined gateways which I incorporated into the entryway for the tower.

I'm really happy with the finished table (and Pulposaurus was too!). If you want more information about Conan: Rise of Monsters, follow them on Facebook for updates.

Stormfiend Rattling Cannon Team

The first batch of Skaven Stormfiends is finished! These are the ones converted with rattling cannons. If you'd like to see the conversion process, check out these previous posts: Link

The two armored models are designed to have their weapons swapped for doom-flayer gauntlets. I'll have more on that when I finish the other armored Stormfiends.

The other models have the "core" rattling cannon arms and can accommodate a variety of weapons.

The models have the option of wielding grinderfists, which allow the unit to tunnel onto the battlefield.

The other weapons and the poses with melee gauntlets and warpstone-laced armor are up next in my painting queue, once I get through the rest of my work, of course.
